Honor Smartphones to Launch in PH Next Week
China’s fast-rising Honor consumer electronics brand will formally enter the Philippine market at an event in Manila next week. Says its CEO Wang Yang.
The Shenzhen, China-based company is a subsidiary of electronics giant Huawei. The Honor brand was conceived to compete directly with the likes of Vivo, Oppo and OnePlus which market their phone offerings from a value-for-money angle.
Headlining the launch will be the Honor 10 model which sports an AI-powered camera as well as the high-powered Kirin 970 processor. Prices have not yet been announced but most industry observers agree that it will compete directly with the links of the OnePlus 6 which retails at around 26,000 pesos.
Earlier this month, 500 Honor phones sold out within 30 minutes after going on flash sale over at Shopee. Yang described the reception as “just OK” but reiterated Honor’s conviction that the time is right to enter the Philippine market.
Honor is aiming its portfolio at younger people who seek good camera capabilities, video playback, smooth gaming experiences and solid sound quality in phones that cost less than half of what premium brands such as Samsung and Apple charge for their flagship models.
