Sony Xperia XA3 Leaks Show Cinematic 21:9 Display and More
The scoop is out regarding one of Sony’s upcoming releases, a new Xperia smartphone with a massive 21:9 cinematic display. Tech insiders eagerly took note when Sony was granted a trademark by the European Union’s Intellectual Property Office (IPO) for the name “CinemaWide.” It was widely assumed that any groundbreaking cinema-worthy features would be exclusively for the higher-end Z24, but it appears that the 21:9 aspect ratio will also be a highlight feature of the mid-range Sony Xperia XA3.
Based on the leaks from the tech world, here’s what we know about the Sony Xperia XA3 so far.

Immersive Display is the XA3’s Bannering Feature
Much ado has been made about the XA3’s size and purported multimedia capabilities. One thing is for sure: the XA3 will be a large unit as far as smartphones are concerned and will likely be at least 6.5 inches in length. This will be great for users who like maximal, hi-res displays on their smartphones and who don’t mind using one like a “phablet.” However, we have yet to find out how easy one-handed use of the XA3 will be, or if bulkiness will be an issue.
First impressions from the image leaks from WinFuture yield that the XA3 sports no bezels on its sides or at the bottom, instead showing what appears to be two front-facing cameras and an integrated earpiece (no headphone jack). In addition to these, the XA3 is rumored to come with a Snapdragon 660 chipset, the Android Pie OS, 6 GB of RAM, an internal storage capacity of 64 GB, a robust 3500mAh battery, and at least one 23 MP rear-mounted camera.
But the pièce de résistance, of course, is the striking 21:9 aspect ratio. Among other things, the aspect ratio will allow XA3 users to watch movies in the 2.39:1 anamorphic format, or in full wide-screen glory. That means that no visual details will be left out, colors and lines will be more pronounced on the display, and those pesky black bars that indicate vacant space won’t jut out above and below the picture. This scheme won’t work for every single multimedia file opened on the phone, but for film enthusiasts who want a cinema-like experience without having to go to the theater, the “CinemaWide” functionality should make the XA3 worth waiting for. It may also be of interest to bona fide gamers, photographers, and patrons of streaming networks like Netflix.

Will Sony Launch New Xperia Offerings at Upcoming Mobile Summit?
Sony’s been mum about the matter and has yet to issue a statement about the XA3 rumors, but it’s likely that they’ll break their silence and shed light on their newest offerings at the Mobile World Congress (MWC). The MWC is the world’s biggest and most anticipated mobile trade show, and will count tech giants like LG, Huawei, and Acer among its attendees. The event will kick off on February 25, 2019 in Barcelona, Spain.
All signs point to Sony’s launch of the Xperia XA3, XA3 Ultra, XZ4, and perhaps even the XZ4 Compact at the MWC. The industry anticipates a comeback of sorts from Sony’s Xperia line, which has endured fierce competition against other smartphone mega-players. Sony’s current vision for its upcoming smartphone products is to improve the users’ camera experiences—and so far, the company looks to break ground with the introduction of its first dual- and triple-camera smartphone systems.
Will the XA3’s decked-out 21:9 CinemaWide features win new customers for Sony? Stay tuned for more glimpses into the bigger picture!
